How DesignChicks Was Born
Jaya Classen and Nancy Waldman met in 2005 and bonded when they were pregnant with their first-born kiddos. Both have always been intensely passionate about interior design, DIY and anything to do with making spaces exceptional. In the early days, the pair often found themselves texting each other at 4am, knee-deep in their respective DIY playroom makeover projects, sharing decor ideas and collaborating on multiple Pinterest boards. Over time, friends and friends of friends began asking the duo for help with selecting furniture, colour palettes, and with renos and floor plans. Gradually, they had collected so many samples – wood flooring, countertops, bathroom tiles, rugs etc. – that people started coming over to pick finishes instead of heading to showrooms.
When the pandemic hit, with five kids between them, Nancy and Jaya realized the importance of having a flexible work schedule and a space that can serve multiple purposes – home school, home office, home gym and everything in between. They decided to quit their day jobs (Jaya a marketing executive and Nancy an occupational therapist) and focus full-time on interior décor. Their new (and last) baby, DesignChicks, was born.
Specializing in home and cottage décor and full scale renovations, the Design Chicks put their full heart (and sweat) into every project. They don’t sleep unless their clients have the space of their dreams. They bring passion, and tons of energy to every project, and love collaborating with clients to create something fabulous.
